MatrixLab Privacy Policy
Effective Date: September 29, 2026
MatrixLab is a matrix mathematics and educational worksheet application developed by Isa Shaikh. It can solve matrix problems, provide practice sessions, generate worksheets and PDF documents, and keep a local history of work completed in the app.
MatrixLab does not require an account and does not operate a MatrixLab server for user accounts or saved mathematics. Most app content and settings are stored only on the user's device. The Android app uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) and Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP), which may process data as described below.
1. Overview
2. Information MatrixLab Stores Locally
MatrixLab stores the following information in app-private storage on the device:
- appearance preferences, including theme and accent color;
- Practice setup preferences, such as topic, difficulty, question count, answer mode, feedback mode, and timer preference;
- Solve History summaries and, while retained, the matrix inputs and solve settings needed to reopen a saved problem;
- Practice History summaries, including topic, difficulty, completion time, duration, question count, score, and session seed, plus detailed mistake records when a session contains mistakes;
- Worksheet History summaries and, while retained, worksheet sets, generated questions and answers, layout choices, output choices, and branding fields;
- worksheet defaults entered by the user, including optional institution or school name, teacher name, notes, footer text, enabled student fields, and an optional selected logo image; and
- consent and advertising choices maintained by Google's consent SDK.
The optional worksheet logo is copied into local app preferences as image data. MatrixLab does not need to retain the original file path after the user selects it.
Generated PDF bytes may be held temporarily in memory while a preview is open or an export is being prepared. MatrixLab does not upload matrix entries, worksheet content, histories, branding details, or generated PDFs to a MatrixLab server.
3. Information We Do Not Directly Require
MatrixLab does not require:
- a MatrixLab account;
- name or email registration;
- a password;
- a telephone number, contact list, precise location, camera, or microphone access; or
- a server-side MatrixLab profile or cloud history database.
Names, school or institution details, and logos are optional worksheet content supplied by the user. They are used locally to format worksheets and are not registration information.
4. Advertising
The Android version of MatrixLab uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to display banner advertisements. Ads are not required for the app's core mathematics features, and an ad or consent-service failure does not prevent those features from working.
Google states that the Google Mobile Ads SDK automatically collects and shares certain data for advertising, analytics, and fraud-prevention purposes. Depending on device, region, consent, SDK configuration, and applicable law, this may include:
- the device's IP address, which may be used to estimate general or approximate location;
- app and ad interactions, such as app launches, taps, and ad views;
- diagnostic and performance information, such as launch time, hangs, and energy usage; and
- device or account identifiers, including the Android advertising ID, app set ID, and other applicable device identifiers.
Google's processing is governed by its own policies and the user's available privacy choices. More information is available in the Google Privacy Policy and Google's advertising information.
5. Consent and Privacy Choices
MatrixLab integrates Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). On supported Android devices, the app asks the Google consent service for the current consent requirements, displays a Google-provided consent form when required, and checks whether ads may be requested before initializing or loading them.
When Google reports that a privacy-options entry point is required, MatrixLab displays Privacy Choices under Settings > Privacy & Ads. That control opens Google's privacy-options form so the user can review or change available advertising choices. The choices offered depend on the user's location, applicable law, and the messages configured by the app publisher in Google AdMob.
Users may also manage or delete the Android advertising ID through Android system settings where that option is available. Disabling network access or using the app when ads are unavailable does not disable the core mathematics features.
6. Device Storage and Generated Files
MatrixLab creates PDFs only when the user requests an export or opens an export preview.
On Android, Download opens the system document picker. The user chooses the destination, and Android grants access only to the selected document location. MatrixLab does not request broad storage access for this operation. Share sends the selected PDF through the device's sharing interface, and Print sends it to the device's print service. A chosen storage provider, sharing recipient, or print service may process the PDF under its own terms and privacy practices.
Downloaded or otherwise exported files are user-controlled files outside MatrixLab's app-private preferences. Clearing app data or uninstalling MatrixLab may remove app-private settings and history, but it does not necessarily remove PDFs that the user saved to Downloads, cloud storage, or another selected destination.
The device operating system or a device-backup service may back up or transfer app-private data according to the user's device and account settings. Those services are controlled by the operating-system or backup provider, not by a MatrixLab server.
7. History and Local App Data
Solve, Practice, and Worksheet history is stored locally using app-private preferences. History summaries remain locally available so the History screen can list completed work. Detailed records are retained on a rolling basis for up to the most recent:
- 100 Solve entries with details;
- 60 Practice entries with details; and
- 30 Worksheet entries with details.
Older summaries may remain after their detailed reopen/review data has been removed. Practice detail records are created for sessions with mistakes so the user can review or retry them.
MatrixLab currently does not provide an account or remote history-deletion request because it does not maintain a MatrixLab account database. On Android, users can remove app-private data through the operating system's Clear storage/Clear data control or by uninstalling the app, subject to any operating-system backup and restore behavior. Saved PDFs outside app-private storage must be deleted separately from their chosen destination.
8. Third-Party Services
MatrixLab includes or links to the following third-party services:
- Google Mobile Ads (AdMob): provides banner advertising and may process the data described in Section 4.
- Google User Messaging Platform (UMP): obtains and stores applicable advertising consent and privacy choices and presents Google-configured privacy messages.
- LinkedIn: MatrixLab's About section contains a guarded external link to the developer's LinkedIn profile. LinkedIn is opened only when the user selects that link.
MatrixLab does not include Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, or a MatrixLab-operated analytics or account backend in the current app.
9. Data Sharing
MatrixLab does not transmit locally saved matrix work, Practice or Solve History, worksheet content, branding text, selected logos, or generated PDFs to a MatrixLab server.
Google Mobile Ads and UMP may collect or share advertising-related data independently as described in Sections 4 and 5. A PDF is also disclosed to a third party when the user deliberately saves it to a third-party storage provider, shares it with a recipient or app, or sends it to a print service.
MatrixLab does not claim to sell the locally stored information described in Section 2. Advertising data processing by Google is governed by Google's services, consent choices, and applicable law.
10. Data Retention
Local preferences and history summaries are retained until they are replaced, cleared through device controls, or removed with the app, subject to operating-system backup and restore behavior. History detail retention follows the rolling limits in Section 7. An optional stored logo remains in worksheet defaults until it is replaced, removed in the app, or the app's local data is cleared.
PDF data cached for an open preview is not intended as permanent app storage. Exported PDFs remain in the destination chosen by the user until the user or that storage provider deletes them. MatrixLab does not control the retention practices of Google, LinkedIn, sharing recipients, print services, or external storage providers.
11. Data Security
MatrixLab limits its own saved work to app-private local preferences and uses Android's system document picker for PDF downloads instead of broad storage permissions. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and MatrixLab cannot guarantee absolute security. Google states that data collected by the Google Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit using TLS.
Users should avoid placing confidential personal information in worksheet branding fields or exported documents unless they are comfortable storing and sharing those files on the selected device or service.
12. Children's Privacy
MatrixLab is an educational mathematics tool, but the current app configuration does not designate it as child-directed and does not set Google Mobile Ads child-directed-treatment or under-age-of-consent flags. The developer must select the app's intended target age groups in Google Play and configure advertising and consent behavior consistently with that decision.
MatrixLab does not knowingly require children to create accounts or submit personal information to a MatrixLab server. A parent, guardian, school, or other responsible adult should supervise use where required and should avoid entering a child's personal information into optional worksheet fields unless appropriate.
13. External Links
The About section can open the developer's LinkedIn profile in an external application or browser. External sites and apps operate under their own terms and privacy policies. MatrixLab does not control their content or privacy practices. LinkedIn's policy is available at the LinkedIn Privacy Policy.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This policy may be updated when MatrixLab's features, third-party SDKs, data practices, or legal obligations change. The updated policy should be published with a revised effective date. Users should review the current published version periodically.
